Mont Order Sect: Detailed Background

THE REAL MONT ORDER SECT IN 2014: AN ESSAY by L. Quaid in Shadow of the Mont Order (2014)

The Mont Order is a predominantly British [1] [2] [3] nondenominational religious and philosophical tradition [4] with possible Roman Catholic origins under the names “La Montagne” and “the Order of Mont” at an unidentified chapel in Normandy, France. [5] It sees itself as the world’s oldest organization, secretly appointed by God immediately after the Biblical creation of the universe and entrusted to plan the course of human history. [6] Although the Mont Order claims to have been dissolved many times, most recently in 1999 [7] and 2012, [8] a more recent iteration of the group has been declared in the United Kingdom and Japan in 2014 as an emerging club of bloggers, activists and churches. [9]

Due to the rumors surrounding it, the Mont Order is best known for being the subject of a conspiracy theory disseminated via internet sources. [10] In this theory, it is described as a malevolent ancient and secret order that has consciously manipulated the course of history by planning disasters and revolutions. [11]

Our impression of the flag of the Mont Order. It features a curved black spearhead superimposed on a round, red stained glass window. The meaning of this icon has never been explained. A similar design features on the cover of the leaked Mont religious book, The Work of the Mont Order.

Names and symbols of the Mont Order

In addition to being called the “Order of Mont” and “La Montagne” in French, the Mont Order is alleged to have 237 other aliases. [12] It is often referred to in short as “Mont” or “the Order” in its own writing [13] and the writing of its critics. [14] Adherents are described as members of the Order or, more often, “a friend” [15] of the Order, most likely to avoid breaching the Oath of Humility and Denial. [16]

Symbols known to have been used by the Mont Order include a hooked sword like a scimitar or scythe, a mountain shrouded in mist, and a solar eclipse. The above three symbols are featured in a mural adorning one of the Mont Order’s leaked religious books, The Work of the Mont Order. [17] Variations on this symbol may include chaotically scattered rings, sunrays, and a circular red stained glass window thought to have featured on the Order’s chapel in Normandy. [18]

Religious texts of the Mont Order

Books written by the Mont Order include the fully leaked The Work of the Mont Order. [19] There is also an alleged apocryphal medieval text attributed to the Mont Order called the Codex Haereditas, [20] and as many as fifty secret Mont scrolls allegedly preserved by the Roman Catholic Church in Normandy. [21] None of these have been discovered. There are also sensational suggestions that The Work of the Mont Order is only a single disclosed volume from among thousands of similar works authored by the Mont Order throughout its history. [22]

It must be added that the current Mont Order group, while cautioning its sympathizers against false books left by “cynical forgers”, [23] has not confirmed or denied the authenticity of The Work of the Mont Order as its own work. Despite this, the leaked version of the book itself is attributed to an organization called the Mont Order Reconstructionist Chapel, [24] which is represented by the authors as an inheritor to the Order’s secret texts. The book is a highly detailed treatise-length work, diminishing the possibility of forgery massively.

Mythological origins

In the Mont Order mythology represented by The Work of the Mont Order, the Order regards itself as the oldest organization on Earth, founded immediately after God created it. [25] This is also confirmed on a key website offering resources on the Mont Order. [26] In response to the “Holy Thief” ascending a mountain to steal sacred fire from the throne of Heaven, God punishes the Thief, asking the Mont Order to redeem him by forever undermining and attacking all kings and authorities on Earth. [27]

In return for redeeming the Thief through sowing anarchy and destruction among humanity, Mont followers believe they will be given a promised special position by God in the highest Heaven. This is reflected in their mythic actions, which appear to serve as an apocryphal parallel of the Bible’s Book of Genesis. We are told about the Order’s role in flooding the entire Earth at God’s command, followed by their construction of a “Tower” to reach the Heavens, in obvious references to the Biblical Flood and the subsequent construction of the Tower of Babel. However, God is not satisfied by either deed, and later gives the Hebrew prophet Jacob a vision of the lost Tower, making him a member of the Mont Order. Jacob in turn passes the authority to another figure called Arrod, who goes on to lead the Mont Order as a “Guide”. [28]

The quest to undermine successive kings and authorities, according to myth, leads the Mont Order’s agents to plan and carry out several well-known disasters throughout history. These include the Sack of Rome, the spread of the Black Death to Europe during the Medieval period, and the “French precedent”, which may allude to the Order’s possible participation in the French Revolutionary Terror [29] under its name as La Montagne. [30]

Historical origins

Constructing an accurate picture of the origins of the Mont Order is difficult. According to one source, the Roman Catholic Church has exerted effort to suppress knowledge of these origins, but is itself continuing to use prayers authored by the Mont Order. [31] The Mont Order, for its own part, repeatedly downplays the more sensational accounts of its origins, instead focusing solely in its more recent collaborations. [32]

Of the history stated by the Order itself, it existed as a more formal religious alliance until 1999, with the organization being officially disbanded in that year. [33] This is also confirmed in The Work of the Mont Order, which makes it clear that the same organization is being described in that book. [34] One “friend” of the Mont Order was part of a collaborative project that had ambitions to become a new iteration of the Mont Order between 2010 and 2012. It failed, and once again the Order returned to the shadows. [35]

The most recent iteration of the Mont Order took the step of opening up on the internet and reconstituting itself as a “public affiliation of churches, groups and writers” very recently, in summer 2014. [36] This is described as a “weak association”, while it does claim to command influence over existing activist networks. The Order is also highly invested in developing a much stronger and more official manifestation as it develops in the foreseeable future. [37]

Structure

A montage of evidence for the Mont Order's existence

The Work of the Mont Order describes the Mont Order possessing a vast underground network parallel to the whole of Christendom, termed as “the shadows of the churches”. [38] The organization’s ability to form and dissolve so quickly and form international ties at speed [39] indicates that, while it may be ubiquitous, the Order’s code might not be as solid and binding in nature for its individual agents as has been represented in its mythology and rhetoric.

In its form as a religious student group before 1999, the Mont Order reportedly had representatives from many faiths, suggesting strong ties to a variety of different faith communities. This is also reflected in its pluralistic calls on different faiths to see beyond their differences and accept the same divine masters. [40]

In 2014, the structure of the Mont Order is merely in the form of a loose association or club, with its most notable media reach based at the world’s top multifaith religious website Beliefnet. [41] While this gives the Order no leaders, individual members could carry more weight and authority than others in such a flexible format, depending on their individual levels of power and influence. Any effective organizational structure within the Order appears to be left to the individual members and participating organizations, such as the WAVE institute. [42]

Doctrine

The version of the Mont Order symbol used by the current official Mont Order club

The Mont Order is highly fatalistic, but often sees its own hand in all events taking place. It considers its previous members to have been militants shaping the course of history, and takes up the task of continuing to fulfil its divine mandate in human affairs:

“The oppressors knew not what their part was in the scheme of the world, and they were led by us to believe that they were developing a supreme order on the earth when they were merely draughts in the plan of our own Order. Led by their greed, they were mules even as they foolishly believed themselves to be leading everyone else on the trail of history.”

The Work of the Mont Order [43]

Seeing the spread of technology and its ability to threaten traditional authorities, the Mont Order has aligned itself broadly with the “techno-progressive” camp in the present day, as confirmed in its collaborative connection with the WAVE institute. [44] This is also supported by the way in which it relates to the internet and expresses an interest in becoming part of the “fabric” of internet activism. [45] According to The Work of the Mont Order [46] and the Order’s conspiracy theorist detractors, [47] the Mont Order also sees all present states as false and unjust, and hopes to overthrow them.

Quotes

“We have burned the earth around you, to scathe you.” [48]

“We have crafted the past, and the future is the empty canvas made for us.” [49]

“And yet we are complicit in oppression, so we require redemption. We, too, are merely draughts even as we profess to know the larger scheme of the things that we witness.” [50]

“The record of our emergence shall then be destroyed, and it will be as though we were never present. The normal flow of history requires that we conceal ourselves, but our presence is required in the throes when we execute our duty to bring forth the next civilisation.” [51]

“As the imitator and devotee of the noble Thief, a worker of Mont reaches out and steals truth from the eyes of the few, so that many can awaken. It will spread like the fire that was gifted to us by our ancestors.” [52]

“Luxury in the oppressive camp is exclusively dependent upon misery in the oppressed camp. That is why this bitter state of things must be brought to its conclusion.” [53]

“Only by having part in the plans of Mont, can one have any place in the making of the next constellation of history.” [54]

“The disequilibrium and the oppression will surely deepen until insurrectionist action at the bidding of Mont alleviates them.” [55]

“It is not an attractive fate to share in, so may they be blessed with the Order’s word and convert before their time is ended.” [56]

“We despise those who have turned their backs on the whole. We despise those who are not part of the whole, and we despise ourselves for our advantages over the meek. Let us pray that we will turn those advantages into the weapons of the meek.” [57]
